Hot off an appearance on CBC’s Marketplace, Nancy Irvine knows a thing or two about the moving business and the rise in moving scams. Starting out as a move coordinator for Guardian Transfer and North American Van Lines almost twenty years ago, Nancy understands how confusing and stressful moving can be and spends much of her day providing helpful advice to consumers. For the past four years Nancy has been President of the Canadian Association of Movers, Canadas only trade association representing moving and storage companies.
Besides helping consumers find trusted and reliable moving companies, Nancy certifies professional moving companies and oversees their adherence to ethical moving standards. She works with CAMs membership and Board of Directors to constantly improve the industry and keeps a watchful eye on those who circumvent the law by holding Canadians household goods hostage and extorting them for money.
Nancy has been instrumental in forming long lasting partnerships with organizations such as the Better Business Bureau and Canadian Association of Retired Persons with the goal of CAM has partnered with pro bono legal services in Ontario to help moving scam victims get their possessions back or navigate the court system.
She has been recognized and featured in international moving magazines and has presented to all major Canadian Van Lines. Recently, Nancy’s expertise was called upon as she presented to the American Trucking Association, as well as United State federal and state enforcement officers, Attorney Generals and the FBI as the U.S. grapples with the spread of moving scams in their country.
